Decent homes
This part of the website is dedicated to helping you understand the Decent Homes process.

|
The Government has set a defined set of Decent Homes standards that all council properties in Sheffield need to meet by 2013/14. Over 32,000 homes were made Decent by June 2009 – that’s 77.9 per cent of the housing stock.
A Decent Home is one that:
- Meets the current minimum legal standard for housing
- Is in a reasonable state of repair
- Has reasonably modern facilities, like kitchens and bathrooms
- Has heating and insulation
|
To find out more about these standards please visit the Communities and Local Government website.
We work in partnership with Sheffield City Council and our five partnering contractors to make sure all council homes in the city are made Decent.
It is the biggest Decent Homes Programme in the country and around £669 million will be invested; over 200 jobs have been created; and we recruited more than 500 apprentices - of who nearly 100 are already training with the contractors.
We are working to the Sheffield Decent Homes Standard
To meet the Standard, your home must:
- Be free from damp
- Have a kitchen less than 20 years old
- Have a bathroom less than 20 years old
- Have an efficient heating system and insulation
- Be in a good state of repair
- Have double-glazed windows
- Have secure external doors
