Your health and safety is very important. When work starts, the contractors will explain what is planned and how it will affect you.
For your own safety, contractors may need to erect a temporary barrier to stop yourself and others getting into a room while they are working in it. If you need to get into one of these rooms, you must ask the workers and they will help you to do so safely.
Children
Children must stay away from all work areas, including the building site, and not touch scaffolding, tools, materials, rubbish and skips.
Pets
Please keep pets away from all areas of work. If floorboards are being lifted, take extra care of small animals.
Dust
Some of the improvements will produce dust. The workers will take appropriate steps to reduce the amount and will clean up daily. It is your responsibility to notify us and the contractor if you feel that you will be affected by exposure to the dust.
Watch your step
Wherever possible, our contractors will make sure you have clear access to your home. However, there will be lots of building materials around. If there is a problem, please tell your Customer Liaison Advisor (CLA) immediately.
Electrical work
Workers may sometimes leave sockets and switches loose from walls during improvements, so plaster or tiling can dry fully. The electrician will tell you which sockets and switches you can use. If you're not sure, please speak to your CLA before using them.
Keep off scaffolding
When workers are on the roof or scaffolding, objects can fall accidentally. Please take extra care when you go in and out of your home and please do not let children play on it.
Keep out of the compound
The contractor may have a site compound for staff and storage near your home. For safety reasons, it's important your children away from this.
Don't Touch Any Equipment
You must not touch or use the workers' machinery and equipment, including hand tools and electrical tools.
