Health & Safety Information
Your health and safety is very important.
When the work starts the contractors will explain what work is planned and how it will affect you.
Workers may need to erect a temporary barrier to stop you getting into a room while they're working in it. For your own safety, please keep yourself and others away from the area where the contractor is working. If you need to get into these rooms, you must tell the workers so they can protect you.
Remember the workers should not use your electricity, radio, phone or toilet without your agreement.
- You must keep children away from all areas of work, including the site compound, scaffolding, tools, materials, rubbish and skips. This is for their safety and to prevent accidents.
- Please keep pets away from all areas of work. If floorboards are being lifted, take extra care of small animals.
- Some of the improvement work will produce dust. The workers will take appropriate steps to reduce the amount of dust and will clean up daily. It is your responsibility to notify Sheffield Homes and the Contractor if you feel that you will be affected in anyway.
- Wherever possible the workers will make sure you have clear access to your home. However, you must take care when you walk on dust sheets or near things like rolled up carpets or building materials. If there is a problem, please tell the Customer Liaison Advisor immediately.
- Workers may sometimes leave sockets and switches loose from walls during work, so plaster or tiling can dry fully. The electrician will tell you which sockets and switches you can use. If you're not sure, please speak to your Customer Liaison Advisor before using them. Sockets and switches will be put back at the end of every working day.
- When workers are on the roof or scaffolding, objects can fall accidentally. Please take extra care when you go in and out of your home.
- If there is any scaffolding around, please do not let children play on it. We'll try to stop anyone getting on the scaffolding but a fall from any height for a child could have serious results.
- The contractor may have a site compound for staff and storage near your home. It's usually several steel huts with a fence around them. Please keep your children away from the compound.
- You must not touch or use the workers' machinery and equipment, including hand tools and electrical tools.
- If we need to do any unforeseen work while we are improving your home, we'll tell you how the work will affect you, and what we'll do to minimise disruption and reduce any risks.
