How can I save money on fuel bills?

Read on for ideas on how to save money on your fuel bills:

Make sure you’re getting the best deal

For a number of years, different energy companies have been allowed to compete in supplying gas and electricity to homes. Check which ones provide energy where you live and which offer the best deal.

You can get help and advice on switching suppliers to save money by visiting the Energy Help Line website.

Check your bills

When you get your next bill, if it is an estimated amount, take time to check the meter and make sure the figures on the bill are about right. If they aren't, take a reading and contact your supplier.

Keep track of Direct Debits

If you pay by Direct Debit, keep a track of how much you pay each year. Sometimes, energy suppliers advise, unnecessarily, that you need to increase the amount you pay each month. If this is the case, be clear and firm about how much you wish to pay and request any credit back in a refund.

Use price comparison sites

Regularly compare the price you pay for your electricity and gas by using price comparison sites. Don't think that because you have been with a company for a certain length of time that you’re getting the best deal.

You can usually save money if you use the same supplier for both your gas and electricity.
