What is furnished accommodation?
|
We aim to provide good quality furnished housing for rent at affordable prices. We currently have around 1,350 furnished properties of all types and sizes across the city.
By furnishing properties where there is a high turnover of tenancies, we have helped to increase demand and create sustainable communities. We also offer an alternative for people living in expensive bed and breakfast accommodation.
There is more information about furnished accommodation in the leaflet at the bottom of this page.

Who can apply for a furnished property?
You need to be on Sheffield City Council's Housing Register to bid for council properties. Once you have been offered and have accepted a council property, you can ask for it to be furnished. You can’t do this once the tenancy has started.
How do I apply for a furnished property?
If the property is already furnished, you can bid for it in the usual way. If the property is not furnished you can request this at either the accompanied viewing or sign up stage.
What does a furnished property include?
A furniture package, depending on the size of the property, decorated and carpeted throughout, and curtains and tracks provided and fitted to lounge and bedrooms. The properties are managed and supported by a dedicated team and everything is delivered at an efficient and competitive cost.
Why does the property have an extra charge on top of the rent?
This is called a service charge. Depending on the size of the property, a charge is added to the rent account to cover the set up of the property and the maintenance of furniture and floor coverings. This charge has been frozen for the last four years.
When will the furniture become my own?
The furniture will always remain our property. You cannot remove it from the property without the consent of the furnished accommodation department. We visit each property every year to check its condition.
