Paying Your Rent
This leaflet tells you about paying your rent, how we tackle rent arrears and lets you know about advice and support that is available if you are struggling to pay your rent. It includes information about:
- The ways that tenants can pay their rent.
- Advice to help tenants avoid getting into arrears with their rent.
- Actions that we take to recover rent arrears.
- How we pursue rent arrears from former council tenants.
In the second part of the leaflet we explain how your rent is worked out. The leaflet includes information about:
- The Government’s policy to make all rents for similar homes in an area comparable by 2012, whether the landlord is the Council or a housing association.
- The formula used for working out the rent on each property.
- The right to appeal against the value used in the formula.
- A step-by-step example of how the rent is worked out.
- Limits on how much the rent can increase in a single year.
